So I saw this image on a friend's dp and it got me thinking at first; if valentine's day is still within context or not, then much later; if Valentine should even be celebrated at all.
What is even the origin of this valentine that we have all decided to be celebrating annually? Some say it is a day of romance having its origin in the Roman holiday lupercalia (a fertility celebration that used to observed annually bt February 13-15). In medieval France and England it was believed that birds mated on February 14. Hence, Chaucer used the image of birds as the symbol of lovers in poems dedicated to the day. Others say it is a day to commemorate the death of a certain Mr. Valentine that was executed on Feb. 14. Whatever the story, I just don't buy what it's selling.
Personally, I don't need the world to give me a particular day when I can publicly show my love to my spouse and I doubt anybody needs such a day, Ordinarily, I should always show/treat/tell/prove to my bff that he is God's best gift to me and I believe that should apply to every other person.
Since this day is not needed, is just overrated, has no meaning in the real sense of it, and even has Pagan origins, then it shouldn't be celebrated.
#stayblessed
Yours truly.
